Justin Timberlake announces one-night-only hometown show in Memphis

The pop machine is getting a boost from Justin Timberlake. Days after deleting his Instagram account and thrilling fans with the prospect of a new chapter in his music career, the singer announced details for a one-night-only homecoming performance in Memphis on January 19 at the 2,300-seat Orpheum Theater. In an Instagram post about the performance, Timberlake wrote, “Going home,” beside a photo of a billboard with the show’s details.

The subsequent slide showcased a preteen JT in a nostalgic film, stating, “This is my hometown—this is Memphis, Tennessee, along the Mississippi River.” Along with what appeared to be an itinerary (all the other items were redacted), the slideshow had a note on “travel to Memphis, Jan. 19—Orpheum” in it.

The final slide featured an audio file of a mid-tempo, organ-driven song fragment that ends just before the singer is about to begin vocals.

Speculation that Timberlake would soon reveal the highly anticipated follow-up to his enigmatic 2018 Man of the Woods album intensified on Monday when fans noticed that he had deleted all of the posts on Instagram save for his profile picture, which showed his eyes peering back through a car’s rearview mirror. The only thing on JT’s Instagram right now is the announcement of the show.
