The POCO F6 and POCO F6 Pro were just launched on the global market. While they are in the same series, they are also rebranded versions of other Redmi models (Redmi Turbo 3 and Redmi K70 Pro, respectively) that were released in China. So, how do they differ from one another? Let us find out.
While you may think that the Poco F6 Pro is an all-around enhancement over the Poco F6, this isn’t quite true. Yes, the Pro model has more premium technology overall, but the standard Poco F6 isn’t far behind, with a focus on performance for mobile gaming that may influence your purchase choice.
Although we haven’t had a chance to test the Poco F6 or F6 Pro out in person yet, these are some of the main specifications that separate the two.
POCO F6 vs POCO F6 Pro: Processor
Given its Pro-level branding, you might think that the Poco F6 Pro features the more potent CPU of the two, but that isn’t the case. As you can see, the Poco F6 sports the latest Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, which debuted in April 2024, while the Poco F6 Pro sports the top-level Snapdragon 8 Gen 2, which was the preferred flagship last year in 2023.
Although it isn’t any more potent than the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, Qualcomm said that the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3’s processing power falls between that of the 8 Gen 2 and 8 Gen 3 when we looked into about it during the device’s unveiling.
Performance-wise, it will give the Poco F6 an advantage, but since the standard F6 is positioned as a gaming phone, that shouldn’t come as a huge surprise.
It’s also important to remember that, even if the Poco F6 has a more powerful chipset, the Poco F6 Pro has better storage and more RAM. In fact, the normal F6’s 6- or 8GB of RAM and 256GB/512GB of storage seem a bit modest in comparison, with either 12- or 16GB of LPDDRX5 RAM and either 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB of storage available to choose from.
POCO F6 vs POCO F6 Pro: Design & Display
Although the Poco F6 may have more power than the other, the Poco F6 Pro has a significantly better display than the F6.
You see, the Poco F6 Pro has an AMOLED screen that measures 6.67 inches and has a pixel-packed WQHD+ (3200 x 1440) quality that is only rivaled by genuinely high-end options like the Samsung Galaxy S24 Ultra. This is combined with an amazing peak brightness of 4000 nits, which is double that of the Pixel 8 Pro, and a smooth refresh rate of 120 Hz.
It should also be easy on the eyes because to its 3840Hz PWM dimming and support for 12-bit color depth.
Now, don’t get us wrong: the Poco F6’s display is far from uninteresting, with a 6.67-inch AMOLED screen and a matched 120Hz refresh rate, but it’s not nearly as pixel-packed with 1.5K resolution. Peak brightness has also been reduced compared to its premium counterparts, maxing out at 2400nits, and PWM dimming has been reduced to 1920Hz as well.
Still, these are extremely respectable specs that will most likely provide an excellent gaming experience for mobile gamers – we’ll know for sure once we get our hands on them.
POCO F6 vs POCO F6 Pro: Dual vs Triple Cameras Compared
The Poco F6 Pro has what the maker describes as a “50MP triple camera setup,” which may lead you to assume that all three lenses are 50MP, but this is not the case.
Instead, just the primary camera receives the 50MP treatment, with the Light Fusion 800 image sensor claiming to excel in HDR recording, as well as standard features like OIS and a super wide f/1.4 aperture, which should improve low-light taking the picture.
It is accompanied by an 8MP ultrawide and a nearly useless 2MP macro camera, the latter of which is just included to increase the number of cameras relative to the standard F6.
That’s because the normal F6 has a 50MP primary camera and an 8MP ultrawide lens, but the main lens has a Sony IMX882 sensor with OIS and EIS. The aperture is still rather wide at f/1.59, so close-up images should have lovely bokeh. You don’t get the 2MP macro lens that the Pro model has, but you won’t lose out on anything.
POCO F6 vs POCO F6 Pro: Storage Option & Faster Charging
As its highest option, the POCO F6 provides up to 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. However, the F6 Pro has a maximum of 1TB of internal storage and 16GB of RAM.
The 5,000mAh battery that powers the Poco F6 and F6 Pro should provide a good amount of battery life, but the F6 Pro will recharge considerably more quickly when the time comes to top up the phones.
In reality, buyers should anticipate quick charging times because the charger in the package supports 120W HyperCharge. Although we haven’t tested the F6 Pro in particular yet, the OnePlus 12 has a nearly identical 5000mAh battery that charges at 120W and can reach full capacity in only 26 minutes.
Even with the included charger, the Poco F6 can handle 90W HyperCharge, so it’s not a lightweight, but it won’t reach 100% as quickly.
POCO F6 vs POCO F6 Pro: Pricing & Availability
POCO has introduced the F6 series worldwide, however both versions are not yet accessible in all regions. For example, the POCO F6 Pro skipped the Indian market. According to their price, the POCO F6 starts at $379 USD and the POCO F6 Pro starts at $499 USD. The former comes in Titanium Glow, Classic Black, and Everland Green, while the latter is available in Black and White.
The Poco F6 is the less expensive of the new duo, priced at £399 for 8GB RAM and 256GB storage, while the Poco F6 Pro costs £50 more at £499, with more premium choices available for both. Both are now available for purchase via parent firm Xiaomi, with reduced early bird price available until May 30.
